1. Open the Keyboard Shortcut Editor

In After Effects, choose Edit → Keyboard Shortcuts. Adobe also provides a direct shortcut:

• Windows: Ctrl + Alt + '
• macOS: Option + Command + '

The editor shows a visual keyboard, a searchable Command List and the modifier combinations attached to the selected key. This is safer than editing preference files manually because you can see conflicts before saving.

2. Understand what the colors mean

The keyboard view helps you identify available keys at a glance:

• Gray: no shortcut is assigned.
• Purple: an application-wide shortcut that works regardless of the focused panel.
• Green: a panel-specific shortcut that works only when that panel has focus.

3. Assign or change a shortcut

1. Search for the command. Use the search box in the Command List. Searching the exact English menu command usually gives the cleanest result.
2. Select the command. Click its shortcut column or select it in the list.
3. Press the new combination. Include Ctrl/Command, Alt/Option or Shift when needed.
4. Review the result. Make sure the shortcut appears next to the command and test whether it belongs to the application or a specific panel.

You can also drag a command from the list onto a key in the visual keyboard. Adobe prevents reassignment of some built-in property reveal keys—such as A, P, R, S, T and U—so a different combination may be required.

4. Resolve shortcut conflicts

If your new combination is already used, After Effects displays a warning at the bottom of the editor and highlights the conflicting command. Decide which action deserves that combination, then change or clear the other assignment. The Undo and Clear controls let you back out without closing the editor.

5. Save your custom shortcut set

Choose Save As, give the preset a clear name such as “Motion Workflow” or “Editing Laptop,” and save it. Keeping the Adobe default set untouched makes troubleshooting and moving between machines much easier.

6. Restore the defaults

Return to the shortcut editor and select the After Effects Default preset when you want the original mapping. Adobe also documents a full reset method: hold Alt on Windows or Option on macOS while clicking OK in the keyboard shortcut dialog.

Good commands to customize first

Start with commands you use repeatedly but still reach through menus for. Useful candidates include:

• Split Layer and Trim Comp to Work Area.
• Pre-compose and Add to Render Queue.
• Panel or workspace commands you switch to many times per session.
• Commands tied to the kind of work you do most: text, masks, keyframes or cameras.

Change only a few shortcuts at a time, use them for several projects, and keep the ones that become automatic. A huge remap on day one is harder to remember than a small deliberate set.

If the shortcut still does not work

• Click the panel where the command should work, then try again.
• Check for a highlighted conflict in the editor.
• Remember that an unsupported physical keyboard may display the U.S. English layout.
• On macOS, verify that the operating system has not reserved the same combination.
• Confirm that the correct custom preset is selected.

3. عيّن أو غيّر الاختصار

2. اختر الأمر. اضغط على خانة الاختصار بجانبه.

4. راجع النتيجة. تأكد أن التركيبة ظهرت بجانب الأمر وأنها تابعة للبرنامج أو للـ Panel المقصود.

يمكنك أيضًا سحب الأمر من القائمة إلى مفتاح في الكيبورد المرئي. بعض مفاتيح إظهار الخصائص الأساسية—مثل A وP وR وS وT وU—لا يسمح After Effects بإعادة تعيينها، لذلك قد تحتاج لتركيبة مختلفة.

4. حل تعارض الاختصارات

ابدأ بعدد قليل من الاختصارات، واستخدمها في عدة مشاريع، ثم احتفظ بما أصبح تلقائيًا في يدك. تغيير عشرات الاختصارات مرة واحدة أصعب بكثير في التذكر.

لو الاختصار ما زال لا يعمل

• اضغط داخل الـ Panel الذي يفترض أن يعمل فيه الأمر ثم جرّبه.
• راجع التحذير والأمر المميز داخل المحرر.
• الكيبورد غير المدعوم قد يظهر بتوزيع U.S. English الافتراضي.
• على macOS تأكد أن النظام نفسه لا يستخدم نفس التركيبة.
• تأكد أن مجموعة الاختصارات المخصصة الصحيحة هي المحددة.

5. Guarda tu preset

Selecciona Save As y usa un nombre claro. Mantener intacto el preset original de Adobe facilita la solución de problemas y el cambio entre equipos.

6. Restaura los valores predeterminados

Selecciona After Effects Default en el editor. Para un restablecimiento completo, Adobe también indica mantener Alt en Windows u Option en macOS al seleccionar OK.

Qué comandos personalizar primero

• Split Layer y Trim Comp to Work Area.
• Pre-compose y Add to Render Queue.
• Paneles o espacios de trabajo que abres continuamente.
• Comandos relacionados con texto, máscaras, keyframes o cámaras.

Cambia pocos atajos cada vez y úsalos durante varios proyectos antes de ampliar el preset.

Si todavía no funciona

• Activa primero el panel correcto.
• Busca un conflicto resaltado.
• Un teclado no compatible puede mostrar el diseño U.S. English.
• En macOS, comprueba los atajos reservados por el sistema.
• Confirma que tu preset personalizado está seleccionado.
